Telaran Vestivius’s force of personality is a fitting tribute to the great wurms in which his bloodline hails. Sheer will provides him with power’s only others can dream of. Tho young Teleran has deftly refined his magical abilities and continues to delve into forsaken knowledge in an attempt to discover a means to deliver his father from his enemies.
Founding
Sometime during the 4th age the city of Kvatch came to prominence. It close ties with Hilltop and the Western Coalition offered Kvatch unique opportunity to become the trade destination for cargo and trade for all points North. Increasing revenues from and up and coming port of call and The Western Coalition’s desire to gain quick access to northern trade, without the necessity to travel halfway across the world via the great divide prompted Kvatch to quickly become an important partner in the financial well being of the Western Coalition.
The Western Coalition provided security and legitimacy in their claim to the formation of the City-State of Kvatch. Dwarven Engineers from Heldaven and financial barons from Hilltop and Sendal descended on the small rural port town and began its transformation into one of the most advanced well designed commercial ports.
Upon Kvatch’s entrance into the Western Coalition allowed for Kvatch’s original villagers to levy a small trade tariff. This small tariff generated egregious amounts of revenue and created an immensely wealthy class of uneducated peasant nobles. Mostly petty despots and spoiled children, the ruling class had no understanding of power or wealth and created law and chaos as it suited them. The Western Coalition were wary of the problem they helped create but continually ignored or placated the ruling class of Kvatch so that trade revenues wouldn't be disturbed. The ruling class continued in their depravity, adorning the very homes they built too be clad in gold silver and precious gems. Thier love of decadence knew no bounds, neither did their greed. More and more taxes were levied upon the common people, so that the nobles could maintain their lifestyles. Change was coming...
The events that transpired during the Great War of the Worlds are not lost on Kvatch. When ancient dragons awoke deep in their lairs, they were thirsty for blood and hungry for the wealth of man. The veracity of the attacks were legendary. Hundreds of years in the making and Kvatch was nearly swept away in a night. Many tales spun about that fateful night claim all would have been lost if it weren't for a young virgin peasant girl whose beauty was beyond measure. She willingly offered herself to the great red “Sullen Tine” as payment for her people's lives. The red accepted and planted his seed. Holding true to his word the great red was satied but leaving the city consumed in flames.
Arissa Vestivius died only several months after in childbirth. The child was brought to the city center by a throng of peasants, the people who Arissa’s sacrificed her body and life for. It was them who anointed the child ruler, Brolin the Red.
Current
Several centuries after the Great War Kvatch has reinvented itself into a city of learning and commerce. The architect of this reincarnation was Brolin Vestivius, after the tragic events that lead to Kvatchs ultimate destruction its was Brolin who by acclaim of the people set forth to elevate his people and reclaim Kvatch’s former glories, and self evident right to govern themselves.
Brolin used the huge trade revenues to create public works to gainfully employ his people. Key treaties with Misreass allowed for the independant importing of goods and foodstuff. While the able bodied youths were drafted into Kvatch’s first standing military, others that showed the flair for magic were brought to centers of learning.
With his people at work, and the sons of his people now effectively militarized, he pressed the unfair treaties his ancestors were essentially forced to sign. Using this military might to his advantage he pressed Hilltop into action by using his forces to harry Hilltop's garrison units in Kvatch. By this time The Western Coalitions enemies were mounting against them. Hilltop had to commit more and more resources to try and keep the status quo. Hilltop had no choice but to sign away its rights and claims to the City-State of Kvatch.
Once Hilltop recognized Kvatch as a sovereign nation by signing the Sovereignty Accords in an attempt to bring Kvatch into the folds of the Western Coalition it was too late. Hearthome had secretly dispatched invasion forces to the Kingdom's of Hilltop, Heldaven, and Sendal. It wasn't long before the Western Coalition was forced to sign an armistice. The Western Coalition was dismantled and presented with the Articles of Confederation. Some ponder if it weren't for the opportunity that Kvatch’s actions created if Hearthome would have had the power to force the Western Coalition into signing the treaty. The price for Kvatch’s sovereignty was high indeed.
