The Confederate Cavalier
Cavalry, both light and heavy, are a warfare staple in all lands and the Hearthome Confederacy is no exception. Not every man, however, can be the noble Knight leading the charge. For every Knight, Palladin, and Templar leading the charge, there are a hundred mounted warriors following behind them. These men learn to become one with their mounts, to depend on them for their very lives.

Alignment: any non evil

Skills: Ride: 5 Ranks, Profession Soldier: 5 ranks, Handle Animal: 5 ranks
Feats: Mounted Combat
Special Must be a member or former member of a cavalry unit in a military within the Hearthome Confederacy

Bonded Mount: The Confederate Cavalier forms a close bond with his mount. They become a single unit, far more than the sum of their parts. See the table at the end of this post for details.
Lance Training: The Confederate Cavalier gains Weapon Focus: Lance as a bonus feat. If they already possess this feat they may take a feat from the following list, provided they meet the requirements for it. Greater Weapon Focus: Lance, Weapon Specialization: Lance, Ride By Attack, Trample. Furthermore, levels of Confederate Cavalier stack with Fighter Levels to determine eligibility for weapon specific fighter bonus feats, but only for the lance.
Ride Bonus: The Cavalier gains this bonus to all ride checks when on his bonded mount.
Deadly Charge: As Cavalier, Complete Warrior page 20
Height Advantage: The +1 to hit for height advantage that mounted characters receive against unmounted characters of the same size or smaller increases to +2. Then to +3 at fifth level, and again to +4 at 9th Level.

Protective Maneuver The Confederate Cavalier may negate 2 attacks on their mount per round using the mounted combat feat instead of one.

Alertness: The Confederate Cavalier learns to trust his mounts senses, both the mount and the rider gain the Alertness feat when they are within 30 ft of each other.
Bonded Wariness: The Confederate Cavalier and his mount learn to trust each other to the exclusion of others. Each gains a +2 to will saves when they are within 30ft of eachother.
Advanced Training: The Confederate Cavalier puts his mount through a very challenging training regiment, increase one of its physical stats by +2
Devotion: The mount gains a +4 to saves when his Rider is in danger.
Blood Bond: The mount gains a +2 attack, damage, and skill and ability checks whenever his rider is in danger.
If the Mount dies, the Confederate Cavalier must purchase a new mount and spend a period of one month and 4d10 gold training and bonding with the new animal.
