Founding
The founding of Veris'thal reaches back to just after The Shattering. In that time when the very land itself changed it's shape, many elves found it either impractical, or impossible, to make the journey all the way to Lysinthra. The Druid Mograth Hesh'vendil, once the advisor to the King of Lysinthra, instead used his talents to find a place of shelter for the coming winter. Nestled between the fork of a newly created river, with mountains behind, and raging waters around, he sent out the very animals of the world to gather what elves they could and bring them to this place of relative safety. And thus was the Nation of Veris'thal born.
Current
The Kingdom of Veris'thal only loosely claims sovereignty. It boasts 36 settlements to its banner, but only it's capitol of Hesh'Vendil truly has a large population of roughly 180,000. The remainder of it's settlements have between a few hundred to a few thousand inhabitants. Though they all claim themselves as citizens of Veris'thal, these smaller settlements often have disputes with one another. Fatalities are generally rare, but trust between neighbors is strained at best. Luckily, these settlements are largely self sufficient. The single largest cause of disputes is, oddly enough, centered around trade with the dwarves of Eastmarch. For a time the elves of Veris'thal mined their own ores. However, when the dwarves of Eastmarch arrived a hundred years ago a deal of sorts was struck. The elves were adapt at growing highly nutritious mushrooms, so in return for settling into the mountain the dwarves would supply ores and the elves would supply their food. Over the last century this has led to overly competative mushroom farms. It's also begining to create something of a schism between the elves and the dwarves.
