Founding
The founding of Lysinthra stretches back to before the world was shattered. Unfortunately, little of the records of Lysinthra's founding survived The Shattering, though some things are known. From what remains of the histories, the elves of Lysinthra settled here after fleeing a great enemy, though who or what that enemy was has been lost. It's known that they chose this region for it's isolation and for the unique species of hardy pinewood that thrived here inthra, the pine tree has taken an almost divine place in their society.
Current
Current day Lysinthra claims seven major settlements, the largest of which is the capital, Lysinthra. The capital city of Lysinthra is divided into two sections, the Inner City, and the Outer City. The Inner city's architecture is more sculpted then built, even it's perimiter wall is composed of living pine trees so tightly interwoven as to be impassable. It's buildings, while not of pine, are also similairly sculpted from living trees. Except for the palace at least. The palace's white marble stands out in stark contrast to the surrounding buildings, and is the only stone building within the Inner City. And towering out of the center of the palace is a massive, 150' tall pine, The Lord Tree. In virtually any part of Lysinthra, Inner or Outer city, one can see the majesty of The Lord Tree. The Outer city was constructed after The Shattering to house the many elves that fled the beasts and starvation that followed. Unfortunately, there were too few remaining trees to accomidate the masses, so they turned to stonework for their lodgings. It's said that the Outer city is as different to the Inner city as the night is to the day, and few who visit would argue the point.
The difference between the Inner city and the Outer is not merely cosmetic either, those that live in the Inner city treat those that dwell in the Outer city as second class citizens, often only barely tolerated. As a result, King Highstrider has been forced to levy strict laws to maintain the relative peace.
