Founding
The founding of Eastmarch occured very recently. The dwarves of Eastmarch were originally a part of a larger kingdom known as gravenhold. However, catastraphy struck in the form of a magical explosion. None of the dwarves of Eastmarch know exactly what caused the devastation, only that the mountain that once held their clan erupted in an unholy green flame that left naught but a lake of molten rock. It was only those that had lived in the settlements around the mountain that survived. But with the fouled air, and the devastation they couldn't stay in the region, and so left east where their maps said mountains should be. Stoic as dwarves are, they simply started referring to themselves as the dwarves of Eastmarch. For a year 65,000 dwarves marched, until finally they found their new home. The only problem, it was infested with elves. Lacking numbers to carve their home by force, and lacking will to venture onward, they struck a deal with the longears. They would ply their considerable talents with ore, in exchange for food and the right to bear their own standard. The elves agreed, and thus was the Nation of Eastmarch born.
Current
Today Eastmarch is primarily concerned with the hollowing out of the mountain, which they renamed Mok-Kaland, or Elf Travesty in the common tongue. And a travesty it has been. The elves had been mining the mountain for quite a while, which would have been fine had they not apparently been clueless. Much of their initial time had been spent repairing, where possible, the egregious mistakes the longears had made. Now, with much of the damage corrected, or at least marginally satisfactorily mitigated, they have changed their focus to clearing an unholy amount of cave fishers within Mok-Kaland's interior. While they have sufficient room for their population, the discovery of a vast natural open chamber is far more appealing, or will be once the vermin are eradicated. Of course, it would also be about this time that the longears would begin pushing the bounds of the agreement made when the dwarves settled here. As a result, tensions are mounting between the dwarves of Eastmarch, and the elves.
